June is Bike Month Challenge!

June is Bike Month and with it comes the Community League Bike Month Challenge!

The intra-League challenge runs between June 1 and June 30. The premise is simple: whichever League’s members ride the farthest wins.

Allendale Community League members and non-members alike are invited to track their cycling and pool their kilometres with their neighbours on the Strava platform. Strava is an app / website that allows people to track their physical exercise using GPS data features on their smartphones. Download the Strava App to your mobile device and search for the club “Team Allendale” or use your computer to join at https://www.strava.com/clubs/Allendalebike. Strava is free to use, though has paid premium options you don’t need for this challenge and has different tools based on if you use it on the web or your phone.

If you don’t wish to use the Strava platform, no problem. Submit your total distance (in kilometres) for the week on Sunday by 6pm to: bikeallendale@gmail.com

Please keep in mind… If you take your family out for a ride, your children’s distance counts as well! So if your family of four takes a four-kilometre spin, you can report 16 km total!

Let’s get moving, Allendale!

Annual General Meeting – May 15th

Our Annual General Meeting is coming up! Join us at the hall on May 15th at 7pm! (6:15PM if you want to join us for pizza!)

“What is an AGM?”

An AGM is a yearly meeting between organizations and their shareholders. That means the Allendale Community League and our community members!

“What should I expect at the meeting?”

Well, snacks and (non-alcoholic) beverages for one! There may also be a short presentation on in-progress projects at the League. The main event is the election of Board Members. Our current Board Members serve a 1-year term, and therefore need to be re-elected every year. Some of our board members are interested in retiring and we have some vacancies. If you are interested in throwing your hat into the ring, we’d love to see you at the event! A brief description of board positions can be found here.

Casino fundraiser – May 26 and 27th

Details: Sunday May 26 and Monday, May 27 at Pure Casino (7055 Argyll Rd).

In compliance with AGLC rules, proceeds from this event can only be used towards certain types of projects, including renovations, facilities, and others.

Our hall needs MAJOR upgrades and renovations. This event and future fundraisers, are integral in deciding what renovations can be done to the hall.

Volunteers will be needed, but available positions will be announced later in March or early April.
