Green Shack is Back for Summer 2022!
Play! Run! Create! Allendale is pleased to be hosting a Green Shack program from July 12 to August 27th, 2022; Mondays to Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The green shack is located on the south side of the Allendale playground. Program leaders are trained to provide fun and safe activities for neighbourhood children – even on rainy days! Put this in your calendar and send your kids over! It is a great way to meet neighbours and make new friends. Children 6 to 12 are welcome to stay on their own- under 6 must be accompanied by a responsible person. Proposed Planning Application
There is a proposed planning application that is close to Allendale. The plan is to rezone the area of 10333 University Ave to allow a multi-unit supportive housing development overseen by the Mustard Seed.

Treaty No. 6 Recognition Day
On Treaty 6 Recognition Day (August 27), the Allendale Community League is proud to be located in Ward papastew Pronunciation: PAH-PAH-STAY-OH.
This name, as well as the other 12 new Indigenous ward names, were gifted to the City of Edmonton by iyiniw iskwewak wihtwawin, an all-female, Indigenous ward naming committee. The names reflect the stories of the Anishinaabe, Blackfoot, Cree, Dene, Inuit, Iroquois (Michel Band), Métis and Sioux Nations and were chosen after much discussion, ceremony and consultation with Elders. The Indigenous ward names are a small but important step in reconciliation and in understanding the history and stories of the many Indigenous nations that were the first residents of Canada.

Street Sweeping has Begun!
The City of Edmonton has begun its annual citywide street sweeping. Please remember to park your vehicles off the street when the street sweepers are working.
Allendale is currently scheduled for May 2 – 8, 2021 (weather permitting). You can find any updates/changes to these dates and additional information on the city website.
LIVE in Allendale: Great North Ukulele Collective
Allendale Community League is pleased to present the Great North Ukulele Collective in Allendale Park! Bring your own chair/ blanket.
Taking inspiration from the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, The Great North Ukulele Collective loves arranging great tunes for the ukulele and adding vocals. Four ukuleles and five voices combine to provide a listening journey you’ll love to sing along to, with songs from Amy Winehouse, Marvin Gaye, Crowded House, George Michael, Fleetwood Mac, and a host of others in between.
Please make a cash donation at the event for the musicians and the league. This event is both a fundraiser for Allendale and a celebration of local neighbourhood music talent. You may choose to drop-in, although keep in mind we have capacity limitations due to COVID-19. Please secure your spot through your Eventbrite ticket at this link.
COVID-19 Safety
We want everyone to stay healthy. Extra measures will be implemented to create a safe environment, including signage and designated entries and exits, 2 m distancing between cohorts, and stringent crowd management. Location: Back Parking Lot Allendale School (6415 – 106 St NW)

***Due to COVID-19, please wear a mask if you will be near any people or maintain a 2 metre distance.***
Please bring your current Community League Membership to gain access. Memberships will be sold at the event, however, we would appreciate it if you bought them before the event.
Accepted items:
- Electronics and small (non-cfc) appliances
- Furniture and non-cfc appliances (no fridges or freezers, no propane tanks)
- Lawn waste such as grass clippings, tree branches, bushes, leaves (no sod or dirt)
Goodwill Edmonton will also be available at our event to accept any usable household items.*
*if you are ONLY dropping off Goodwill items you do not need a community league membership.
We do NOT allow the following item to be loaded into the BIN:
- NO HAZARDOUS WASTE: no paint, batteries, chemicals (or any liquids, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.)
- NO propane tanks or fire extinguishers
- NO dead animals, manure, tires, mattresses, fridges, freezers or photocopiers
- NO railway ties, dirt, sod or cement
- DO NOT load bins above the top–this is unsafe and can result in extra fees
Please take the following to the ECO-Station (5150 – 99 St) instead:
- Fridges, freezers (there is a fee of CFC removal)
- Lights, Batteries or Hazardous material (e.g. paint, solvents, chemicals)

Submissions Wanted! COVID-19 Community Archive Project
The project team is seeking art from Queen Alexandra and Allendale residents reflecting on these unusual times for a community banner.
ALL forms of creative expression are welcome, including paintings, photographs, poetry, stories…etc.
Kids, seniors, youth, students…everyone in the community is encouraged to share!

PEOPLE WITH SEWING SKILLS NEEDED!
The communities of Allendale and Queen Alexandra are in strong need for more people to sew masks. The COVID-19 community assistance team would love to continue to provide masks to the community, and especially now that public areas are opening. We are in strong need for more people to sew the masks. All supplies are provided by the community, along with patterns and anything else you might need. Also, we are okay if you can even sew a few – whatever anyone can help with would be GREATLY appreciated. If you can help sew masks, please contact us at covid@qacl.ca
